Extended Barra Fishing Charters

Extended Barra Fishing Charters

Extended Barra Fishing Charters run from 3 – 7 days allowing clients to get the best opportunity to catch a big barra. Staying close to the the location maximises Fishing time on the water and being able to fish the best tides during your charter.

Best time for Barra Fishing

Barra is caught throughout the year in the Top End. The best time to chase big barra is during the Runoff, which is after the wet (from late February through to May) and the Buildup (September until mid-December). All charters are small groups of up to 4 per boat. Larger groups can be catered for with multiple boats.

Accommodation

All extended barra fishing charter accommodation is Lodge based along the Mary River.  To be able to come back to a pool and air-conditioned rooms at night ensures a good rest for your next day’s fishing.

Runoff Barra Charters

During the Runoff, clients stay at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge which is 20km from the Shady Camp boat ramp. Shady Camp has access to some of the best run-off fishing locations in the Top End. Not only access the Mary River mouths but the surrounding runoff Creeks and Bays. Barramundi is the main target species with threadfin and blue salmon and jewfish also caught.

Buildup Barra Charters

For Buildup charters, clients stay at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge or Mary River Wilderness Retreat on the Mary River. Extended barra charters during this time are run on the neep tides and generally run for 3 or 4 days.

Extended fishing packages are created with you in mind. Not only is this a fishing charter but a Top End experience.  From the moment you are picked up from the airport or your accommodation, all you have to do is bring your items and medication and you will be on your way. Our charters are BYO.

An insight to our extended Barra Fishing Charter

Thank you Anthony for putting this together

Shady Camp Runoff Barra Fishing

When to Visit:   Late February – May

The Runoff precedes the Wet when the flood plains drain into the rivers and coastal creeks and brings along the bait fish that have been breeding. The barra comes into the rivers and creeks to feed on these bait fish.

Well known for its metre barra, clients have the opportunity to target these big barra.  Also, later in the season threadfin salmon arrive in the river with double and triple hookups not uncommon.

Buildup Fishing Charters

When to Visit: Late September – Mid December

The Build up is when the wind starts to die down and the humidity starts to rise.  This is when the big barra come back on the bite as they get ready to breed in the river mouths and afternoon storms arrive.

During this time we offer three day extended charters to Shady Camp targeting Barramundi. Other species that can be targeted are Jewfish and threadfin salmon. We also offer multi day charters to various locations throughout the Top End including Shady Camp, Dundee Beach, Leaders Creek / Vernon Islands and Darwin Habour.
